This is what I call an original concept - crafting your own nature art works, incorporating them in to your property's landscape, and preventing developers from digging for oil, by creating an artistic work that is deserving of copyright protection as an original work. The oil refiner was claiming that Mr Van Tiesenhausen had no rightful claim to the land below the top 6 inches of soil and allegedly taking the matter to arbitration. So the property owner put his creativity to work to ensure his land could never be disturbed.
When I studied copyright law many many moons ago, I can be assured that nothing like this was ever envisaged when it came to defining an artistic work ! As I wrote in my comment on the Facebook page for Orion Magazine - this is what I call eco-creativity - to the MAX.
