Environmental Education Aids

Sustainability in the Classroom and at Home…

This SECTION contains resources and ideas for developing Environmental Games and Activities for parents, school teachers, community groups, After School or holiday programme leaders in the EfS - Education for Sustainability process.

Goals
We aim to build in:

  • eco-creativity, a sense of FUN,

  • above all, accessibility in to what we teach

  • a sense of competitive spirit, some surprise or something memorable  and,

  • Peer to Peer Education

  • research in to interesting environmental facts

  • sustainability themes more broadly across home play and the entire Curricula, eg mathematical lessons incorporating measurable environmental aims - such as CO2 and energy use, or litres of water reduced by industry.

Inspiring Action Through Play, Learning and Fun

By bringing eco-learning onto a more sub-conscious level, we are able to stir up the desired (subliminal, emotional) response in younger people - makes the learning experience more memorable and meaningful!

Less thinking and more doing!

Many of the creative tasks involve team-work, which is ideal for composite (mixed grade) classes. Older kids can encourage or teach the younger ones (peer to peer education) See Kids Teaching Kids website.

The next few pages are about the HOW - how to achieve the above goals.
